The retail industry has seen quite a chain of events in the past few years, starting with actual supply chain crisis of 2021, with its skyrocketing demand and massive shipment and delivery delays. It was a disaster that retailers are still trying to clean up.

Stores thought ordering more inventory would solve the problem, but by the time all the goods arrived, we were hit with a new wave of Covid and then the highest inflation the nation has seen in 20 years. Walmart announced "aggressive rollbacks" in major categories like apparel back in June, and they're continuing to deliver on that promise as we head into August. The company's CEO announced on Monday that "increasing levels of food and fuel inflation are affecting how customers spend." Since consumers aren't as focused on buying clothes during an economic downturn, Walmart has decided to mark down their apparel overstock even more aggressively.
